Company Milestones

BioGasol ApS is a Danish company founded in January 2006 as a spin-out from The Technical University of Denmark, DTU. Founder of the company is Professor Birgitte Kiær Ahring and the first financial investor was BankInvest – New Energy Solutions.

The company has developed renewable energy solutions, which are based upon extensive research and development work at DTU since 1994. Today the company has just over 20 employees and demonstrated the technology concept successfully in a pilot plant since 2006.

  

Fjord Capital Partners - 2010

In March 2010 the company was sold to Fjord Capital Partners.

 

Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Award - 2009

In recognition of the company's ability to advance in commercializing technologies for cellulosic ethanol production, BioGasol recieves the 2009 Global Second Generation Biofuels Technology Innovation Award.

 

Guardian Global Cleantech 100 Company - 2009

BioGasol has been named a Global Cleantech 100 Company by the Guardian News and Media Group and Cleantech Group for being one  of the 100 most promising privately held clean technology companies worldwide.

 

BBF2 - 2nd Grant for Demonstration Plant, Denmark - 2009

In March 2009, BioGasol received a Danish Government grant of 10.5 million EUR for building an integrated bioethanol process plant at semi-industrial scale at the Island of Bornholm. The plant is expected to become operational in 2012.

 

New Domicile - 2008

In December 2008, BioGasol moved from the DTU Campus to new domicile at Ballerup, 14km North of Copenhagen City centre. The new premises included new laboratory facilities, offices and a pilot test area of more than 1000m2.

 

Red Herring Global 100 Winner - 2008 

In January 2009 BioGasol was awarded with the prestigious Red Herring Global 100 prize. We were awarded as the only Danish company to be among the global top 100 list i.e. as one of 100 most innovative companies in the world.

 

WCB - Grant for Demonstration Plant in Oregon, USA awarded - 2008
In January 2008 BioGasol was awarded a 24.3 million US dollar grant from the US Department of Energy (DOE) to build a 2nd generation (cellulosic) bioethanol demonstration plant, West Coast Biorefinery (WCB), in collaboration with Pacific Ethanol Inc. 

 
BBF1 - 1st Grant for Demonstration Plant, Denmark awarded - 2007
In December 2007 BioGasol was awarded a Danish Government grant of 3.7 million EUR to further develop and scale-up key process technologies for 2nd generation bioethanol production. The key technologies will be the implemented and demonstrated in a coherent process to demonstration plant.
  

Industrial Partnership - 2007
In 2007 the company signed the first industrial partnership with Tate & Lyle, a leading manufacturer in renewable foods, in converting residual corn fibre into bioethanol.
  

Red Herring Award - 2007
BioGasol has been awarded the prestigious Red Herring Europe Award as one of the most innovative companies in Europe 2006.


Pilot plant in operation since 2006
BioGasol commenced operation of the first fully integrated 2nd generation bioethanol pilot plant at the Technical University of Denmark in August 2006.
